UC/ CSU Application Window is Open2012-11-01
1)The application cycle is fully underway, and starting today, November 1st, applicants can now submit their applications.  Students have until 11:59pm PST on November 30 to submit their application.  After the application is submitted, applicants can make changes to contact information, update self-reported test scores and complete application fee payments.
2)Test Scores: SAT/ACT/SAT Subject Tests:Students applying for fall 2013 admission must take the ACT or SAT by December 2012. Please check remaining test dates and register for exams.ACT dates and deadlines:  www.actstudent.org/regist/dates.htmlSAT dates and deadlines:  http://sat.collegeboard.org/register
Applicants planning on taking or retaking SAT/ACT/SAT Subject Tests can list planned test dates on the application and submit their official scores by the end of December. The UC does not recommend that applicants use the College Board’s Score Choice function because it delays delivery of test scores. We strongly encourage students to report all scores and only use the highest score at a single sitting for admission consideration. The UC only uses SAT subject tests, which are not required, as an additional piece of information as a part of the application. All official test (SAT/ACT/SAT Subject Tests) scores can be submitted to just one campus to which the student will be applying. Test scores will be disseminated to all campuses to which the student applied. Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate: AP/IB scores must be reported on the admission application. Official scores must be submitted by the testing agency, after acceptance of an offer of admission, to the one campus at which the student plans to enroll: Although the College Board reports all AP tests results to the UC campus, students should be aware that AP test scores lower than 3 will not adversely affect their chances for admission.
3) Official transcripts & Letters of Recommendation:         Transcripts:  Students must refer to transcripts as they fill out the application to ensure the information they enter is accurate. However, they must not submit transcripts at this point in the process. Transcripts must only be submitted to the one campus at which the student plans to enroll by the deadline date the campus will provide (unless specifically asked by a campus prior to the admission decision).
4)Letters of Recommendation:  Students must not submit letters of recommendation unless specifically asked by a campus.
5)  TO apply to the CSU go to www.csumentor.com

Each summer teens come to immerse themselves in their artistic disciplines at the California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA). Some of its prominent alumni include actors Zac Efron and James Franco, and "American Idol" runner-up Katharine McPhee.
Students are selected through a rigorous application process, and admission is based only on the promise an applicant demonstrates in their portfolio submission. No student is denied because of financial need, and each year 40 percent of CSSSA students receive full or partial tuition assistance.
Students who successfully complete the program are designated California Arts Scholars and receive the Governor's Medallion, the state's highest distinction for artistically talented youth. Graduates can apply for three units of California State University course credit, and each year 18 students are awarded college scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $40,000 from The Herb Alpert Foundation.

12th Annual Holocaust Art and Writing Contest2010-09-21

The Prompt-
The 1939 Club is one of the largest and most active
Holocaust survivor organizations in the United States.
It takes its name from the year that Germany invaded
Poland, changing forever the lives of those who would join
together to form the club in Los Angeles in 1952.
The 1939 Club has available on its Web site nearly 100
full-length oral testimonies. Some of these oral histories
were recorded in the early 1980s at the University of
California, Los Angeles; others were recorded in the mid-
1990s in Orange County by the Anti-Defamation League.
The USC Shoah Foundation Institute for Visual History
and Education has an archive of more than 50,000
videotaped testimonies from Holocaust survivors and
other witnesses. The Shoah Foundation Institute is part of
the College of Letters, Arts & Sciences at the University
of Southern California.
- View and listen to at least one full-length video
testimony of a survivor from any of the following:
- The 1939 Club Web site at 1939club.com
- The USC Shoah Foundation Institute YouTube

(in the Full-Length Testimonies playlist)
- The Echoes and Reflections: Full Visual
Histories Web site, which contains testimonies
from the USC Shoah Foundation Institute:
tc.usc.edu/vhiechoes
- Reflect upon how this testimony brings you to
your own space of memory, a place of dialogue
between past and present.
- Create a work that enables your audience to
understand the meaning you have made in this
space of memory.
If an internet connection is not available, students may
view these testimonies in the Sala and Aron Samueli
Holocaust Memorial Library at Chapman University from
Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please contact
Jessica MyLymuk, Holocaust Education Coordinator, at

Congressional High School Art Competition2010-03-02
Information regarding Congressman Royce's seventh annual "Congressional High School Art Competition" is now available.
The Congressional High School Art Competition is is an opportunity to showcase the artistic talents of the many creative high school students in Orange County. All local high school students are encouraged to submit their favorite piece of artwork for the competition.
The contest is a part of a nationwide Congressional High School Art Competition sponsored by the Congressional Arts Caucus. The winning piece of art from Royce's district will be displayed in the Cannon House Office Building Tunnel, a high-traffic pedestrian walkway leading to the United States Capitol Building, for a period of one year. It will be a part of a national exhibition of winners from other Congressional districts around the country.  Click here to view last year's artwork now hanging in the tunnel.
This year, Southwest Airlines has been gracious in providing two complimentary tickets to the district winner to fly to Washington D.C. to see their art displayed in the Capitol Building during the unveiling ceremony on the 17th of June. In addition, my office will be more than happy to assist in arranging a variety of tours for the winner and his/her parents, including a meeting with me in my Washington DC office.
